Tendulkar Truly Forever


Sachin Tendulkar might have retired a week ago but his retirement party is far from over. Apart from intending to show 199 kilograms of rose petals over the stadium during his second last Test, a specially minted gold coin with his face used for the toss on his 200th test appearance, Tendulkar also became the first Indian sportsman to be honored with the highest civilian honor India could ever bestow even before he could leave the Wankhade after his final test. But in spite of the Bharat Ratna, stands or entire stadium named after him, has Tendulkar been truly honored with the penultimate tribute?

Are We There Yet?

A Japanese couple once asked Jackson Pollack just how did he know that a painting was done. Pollock studied them for a brief moment before saying, “How do you know when you are finished making love?” Sachin Tendulkar’s declaration that he’s retiring from Test cricket might have happened on 10 October 2013 but the sad truth is that he was done with the lovemaking a while ago.

Since the ODI World Cup victory MS Dhoni has come to be associated with a lot of first-evers of a kind he isn’t used to. Under him India has lost it’s first ever series at home in years, lost nine out of the last ten tests and some such. Now, that India has lost the mother of all battles, the sentiment attached to every India-Pakistan tie, would the selectors finally give him the axe?
